GENRAL PURPOSE RATING (6 Months Course)

 

Educational Qualification:

 

  • Pass in SSC / (10th) from a Recognized Board with Average 45% and Minimum 50% Marks in English Subject

Eligibility Criteria:

 

  • Age Limit : 17 years & 6 Months Upto 25 Years (Maximum)
  • Vision : 6/6 in Each Eye, No Colour Blindness, No Spectacles Allowed
  • Course Fee :₹ 4,95,000/- (Fess can be payble in easy monthly installments)
  • Course Commencement : Course commences from 1st January / 1st July of Every Year.

Course Description:

 

seafarer Maritime Academy is offering GP (General Purpose) Rating course for Students who want to have an exciting, prosperous and adventurous career in the field of Merchant Navy. GP Rating Program is a 6 months pre-sea training program that even 10th passed students can pursue after schooling. GP Rating course focuses on training cadets in two main roles of shipping sector- Deck crew and engine crew & the pre-sea training will be given into D.G. (Directorate General) Shipping, Govt. of India approved academies. As part of the course, cadets will be given knowledge and skills related to topics like- ship machinery, swimming, fire prevention and safety technology, first AID, basics of sea, ship familiarization faring etc. General purpose ratings are the trainees on board merchant ship who undergoes short training program which is generally designed in 2 phases (Pre-Sea & On-board training). They are trained to work in both the departments Deck and Engine and that is the reason they are called General Purpose. Ratings can be a part of deck or engine room assisting the officers and engineers for the deck and engine operations. After the completion of Pre- Sea training the seaman can decide that whether he wants to be a part of deck or engine team. Eventually they become the certified watch keeper in deck or engine room. Ratings once complete 36 months of sea time can also undergo post sea course and qualify examination in India/UK/Australia/Singapore and become deck or engineer officer, but for that a lot of hard work and determination is required from their end.

 

SCOPE, JOBS AND SALARY DETAILS:

 

On successful completion of this Pre - Sea training, the candidates will be able to join as a GENERAL PURPOSE (GP) RATING in Indian & Foreign shipping companies as a Deck Crew or Engine Crew. The GP Rating candidate will be able to work in all seamanship activities on-board either deck side or Engine side. After completing this Pre-Sea Training, exams will be conducted by Board of examination for sea farers (BES) & successful candidates are eligible to obtain Continuous Discharge Certificate (INDIAN CDC) from the Directorate General of Shipping, Government of India. There are wide job opportunities for our Indian Seamen all over the world. With further sea service and examinations (oral and/or written), the candidate will be promoted to officer Level with certain service and qualification requirements. After 36 months of sea service, one may appear for 2nd Mate Examination and rise to the Officer Rank. Salary specifications differ, depending on the candidate’s performance and type of vessels at the time onboard training. Generally, Starting Salary is in between ₹ 20,000 - ₹ 30,000 Indian Rupees at the time of joining the ship.
